Closed-loop Gait Optimization Using Artificial Sensory Feedback with a Leg Prosthesis

In this collaborative research with Dr. Boris Prilutsky’s lab in the School of Applied Physiology, we develop a sensing limb prosthesis. This prosthesis records limb motion and loads and transmits this information to the central nervous system via electrical stimulation of residual sensory nerves. Stimulation parameters are optimized by signal processing algorithms that adaptively evolve according to locomotor behavior. This study will help restore sensory feedback from the lost limb and improve prosthetic gait.
